Insurance 'fixers' is overhead intensive and eats profits like you wouldn't believe - steer clear of that particular road if at all possible. Know someone who ended up with 'don't want it back' and 'cost more to fix than keep' junkers in his garage.

As for how much does the 'average' owner make, first understand there is no such thing as an 'average' paintshop owner. Someone with a ding in their 12 year old Mercedes paint will gladly pay $1,000 or more to have it gone (and it might cost you $100 to fix because you know what you're doing). Someone else with a 2 year old Toyota may think $200 is too much to get an entire left door panel repainted.

Just depends where you've set your sights in the market.
References :
most of the business is insurance work which requires a bigger shop. Your talking about custom work which is a speciality field and it doesn't sound like you're that experienced. What would your customer base be?
You may consider trying to do it part time till you start to get some customers. Work for someone else and part time on your own.
Another way to make it pay is to buy cars that need repairs and fix them, paint them and resell them.
References :
Unfortunately, it's not possible to buy repair insurance for your car, even if it is as old you said. Though, you can get low rates for having insurance on an old vehicle.
But, you can always take it to the garage...
References :
http://www.ai-quotes.com/autoinsurancequotes.html

You can't really buy repair insurance on any car. All you can do is buy an "insurance policy". Just ask the almost 1,000,000 people who bought a policy from USFidelis for as much as $4,000 and now have a piece of toilet paper. The bankruptcy really didn't change things for most of their customers anyway because they refused to pay for most of the repairs they promised. There problem was always due to neglect or abuse by the customer and so it wasn't covered by the "bumper to bumper" policy.

USFidelis was the largest of these extended warranty companies but there are hundreds of others who for the most part are nothing but scams.
References :
http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2009/04/fidelis.html

there could be many ...
there could be many ways to fix it first check all hoses to make sure none are kinked or broke. If there is none flush your cooling systom and replace the thermostat. If that doesnt work you may have a little more seirious problem like the water pump. and if all else fails try a coolant additive like water wetter.

There are many ...
There are many factors that causes overheating. I'm assuming that you're driving normally on flat roads.

Common problems that cause overheating:
1.) Overloading the car's maximum capacity.
2.) Insufficient coolant. Recommend 50/50 mixture
3.) Broken Thermostat.
4.) Broken water Pump.
5.) Blown head gasket
6.) Relay fuse is dead
7.) Leak somewhere in the hoses
8.) Leaky or blown radiator
9.) Not burping the radiator

Just check for leaking fluid after driving. Cheers^^
