my car is black and rather old. i want an overall paint job just to make it look much better. i don’t need anything too pricey or extravagant…just something too put the spark back in the car (:
nothing to pricey…just a few hundred dollars!
list the best auto shops u know! thaknks
None?
You pay for what you get. Go cheap, get a cheap paint job.
Pay quality, get quality.
Paint isn’t cheap, and labor is expensive. So how much of either do you think you can get for a few hundred dollars?
You could go Maaco or Schrieb, but expect the paint to peel off within a year. My exwife did the same thing you’re looking to do, and after a year, the car was worse than it was when she started.
Save up, take the car to the dealer (if they have a painting department), and have them professionally do it. Cost you up to a few thousand dollars, but it will have a dealer warranty, a factory color, and be done right.

I went to my car dealership beacuse my car wasnt running properly. The service advised me that the body shop where I fixed my car did an incomplete job and was missing parts from my car.I then tried several times to locate the owner but I reeived no response, then I was told that the owner sold the business, what should I do?
You really need to consult with a lawyer. I own an autobody shop and I buy autobody shops. If I purchase an autobody shop I usually assume the liability of that shop, (though this usually does nothing but cost me money, it builds a repoirte with the clientele) it depends on the clausory that is in the purchasing shops contract. If there is no assumption by the purchasing shop, then you will need to file a civil suit against the former owner.
The easiest way to find the former owner is to contact the current owner and find out who he bought it from. He will readily hand this information over to you when he understands your situation and you mention anything about a civil suit.
You also need to get a 3rd party autobody shop to write an estimate to fix the damage that was not fixed in the first place.
Some insurance companies, when faced with this problem for work that THEY actually paid to have done, will pay for the work to be fixed correctly and then go after the other party with their high powered lawyers. So, if this damage was settled with an insurance claim, I would let the insurance company who paid the claim know about the problem.
I hope that this helps you get the remedy that you deserve. Its shops like that which give us a bad name. I’m sorry for your experience.
Good luck.

My car was side-swiped. No major damage, but some molding was ripped off from the passenger-side door. I thought the body shop could just snap it back in place for $20 and I wouldn’t have to bother my insurance company. However, the mechanic said he’d have to replace the whole door – cost $2300! Now is this legit or what just for a piece of plastic?
If there is no damage to the door other than the molding order the molding from the dealer and do it yourself.

My 2006 car, which I just got a fortnight before got a scratch in the side of the front bumper by rubbing against the side of the garage entrance
. This is my first car and so I am very very depressed. Does anybody have an idea regarding the below
1) Whether the body shop will repaint a 1/2 feet by 1/2 feet portion or they will charge me for the entire front bumper?
2) Will getting the work done from a body shop put an permanent entry in the car history?
3) Any idea how much will they charge for it?
The proper repair would be to remove the bumper from the car so it can be thoroughly scuffed (sanded to make coatings adhere), and so coatings can be applied over the entire panel. After the damage is repaired the part would be primed and sanded again; then the new paint would probably be blended or feathered into the old, keeping it confined to as small an area as possible. Then, the entire bumper cover would be protected by a couple of coats of clearcoat. Some paint brands require an additive to be mixed with the paint to make it pliable on flexible and semi-rigid surfaces like bumper covers.
Insurance companies and police records are a couple of sources where VIN history companies like Carfax get their data. As long as there wasn’t a police report and you pay the repair bill without the use of insurance, VIN history retailers will probably not be notified. Independent body shops usually don’t report to them. However, that might not be true of shops that partner with insurance companies.
The job you described doesn’t amount to much money – perhaps $250 to $500 – depending on what part of the country you are located in. The folks at http://www.SafeCollisionRepairs.com can help you find a reputable shop that doesn’t participate in direct repair deals with insurance companies.
Please don’t fret over this. When proper repairs have been performed, you shouldn’t be able to tell there has ever been damage to the bumper.
