Is there anyone in the Hampton Roads area with a willingness to teach automotive repair?

I absolutely love cars. I would like to be more hands on when it comes down to it.
I am a 23 year old female that currently resides in Hampton, VA. I have always held an interest in automotives. I would like to have a better understand of all operations related to automotives. Sure, I can go to school and obtain a certificate and/or diploma in this area, but why do that when this it so much cheaper?
