Best or good book to study the basic of automotive repair and parts?

Posted by admin on February 8, 2012

I just need to know a name of a book thats teaches the basic repair and the parts of a engine, etc.

Start by reading a Haynes or Chilton’s Overhaul and service book on your particular car or truck cover to cover. Auto parts stores and book stores have these books. Library’s are loaded with Motors Books Chilton’s and Haynes overhaul and service books. Check out basic lawnmower, garden tractor or snowmobile service manuals also.

Think about purchasing an inexpensive multitester from Sears, auto parts store Radio Shack, hardware or electronics store. This meter can check battery and charging system voltage as well as OHMS of resistance. Every household should have a multimeter. Check out the 1710 Voltage and battery load tester @ Tools Chest.

I suggest you get something on lawn mower engines. For one thing, they are still repairable. Car engines are now computer controlled and extensively instrumented so you need a college degree and a shop full of equipment to work on them. But your basic engine understanding can be scaled up.
