Do you have to pay auto shops all at once?

Posted by admin on February 26, 2011

I need to get the transmission fixed on my 01 gmc jimmy but its gonna cost about 1500, I can’t payy all that at once but I can pay over the course of say 2-3 mons.

Do auto sops do that usually or no?

Depends on the shop! At our shop we try to work with the customer especially if it is a big job such as yours! But of course the vehicle will not go anywhere untill you pay in full!

No. At most shops, you get your vehicle back when you’re done paying for the repairs. If they have to store it for 3 months, they’ll usually charge storage fees too.

Most shops want payment c.o.d. but if you know the shop and the owner, they may work with you.

    Hi
Yes and no,. You can ask and assure them that they can put a mechanic lean on it. Pay the bill on time or they own your truck.

i have had a mechanic allow me to pay monthly payments in the past and take my car home that day, but from what i understand this an uncommon occurrence in the automotive repair industry.

Some will some won’t……don’t count on the big chain shops letting you pay on time. They have plenty of work so they don’t need the trouble…..some shops that might let you pay slowly would want to keep your car until paid….others might let you take it if you gave them some collateral to hold….
You might be better off going to the bank and getting a small emergency loan and using your car for collateral.
I have been in your shoes before, I know how you feel, it sucks (it was the engine on my Bronco II) and i needed it to get back and forth to work.
What I did was asked my boss for an advance to pay the garage….I showed him the papers and he allowed it….thankfully. He took an amount out of my next few checks…sure saved my butt.
Good luck to you. You will figure something out.

Depends on the amount that you have to pay I had a 99′ Jimmy too and had to do an entire engine over haul cost me 1700$$$ and had to pay it off slowly. Usually after a certain percent of it paid they will let you have the vehicle back but also depends of the company’s policy.
