I do not know your situation completely, however I must recommend that you graduate both high school and a technical college. Turning a wrench is something anyone can do. understanding how things work and why things are as they are is crucial to making an educated diagnosis and a proper repair. If you'd really like to change oil and air filters for the next decade and be "low man on the totem" feel free to quit. I am a mechanic with very high marks in achievement and a devote following of clients. I accurately perform repairs and diagnose problems quickly and efficiently. I use every bit of education I have received from school to be professional in the business world. Many of the gentlemen I work with are disrespectful, uneducated and serve primarily to install parts that only a technician could properly understand why. school isn't always easy and it takes an eternity when your young but finishing school shows employers that your committed and it will pay for itself time and time again. so please invest your time wisely and get an education first. then pursue your passions with auto repair
References :
Mike, I admire the fact that you know what you'd like to do in life, but you do need to finish high school. I know that diploma isn't what it used to be, but as an employer, it shows me that you are not a "quitter." If 2 guys were competing for one job opening, the guy who graduated will win everytime. Plus, you never know what life will bring...someday you might want to change careers, or go to a technical school such as U.T.I. or Wyotech. They will not accept you unless you have at least a G.E.D. You only have a short time left before you graduate so stay in school. Good luck in your endeavors.
References :
I graduated from high school, and have been an auto dealer for 23 years.
