How do I request a different auto mechanic?

Posted by admin on October 31, 2009

I go to the dealer to get my car maintained, but one of the mechanics did a shoddy job last time (in fact I have to go back tomorrow to get some things fixed that he botched up). How can I tactfully request a different auto mechanic to do the work? I don’t want to cause any enemies or make him angry.

P.S. I go to this dealership because I have a service contract from them, plus my car is less than three years old and still under warranty

thank you! i’d appreciate any ideas that you have

Easiest way is to ask to talk to the service manager. Tell him your concerns and simply request a different tech work on your car. Be cordial, and I bet he will bend over backwards to be nice and take good care of you. Believe me, handle it like this and it won’t cause any problems.

Speak to the manager about it.

First of all, the warranty doesn’t mean you have to take it to any dealership for scheduled service. Secondly, the service contract is probably from the make ( Pontiac, Mercury, Mercedes, Dodge, etc) and can be used at any of their dealerships! Lastly- if you HAVE to take it back to them, tell them as tactfully as you asked us! Or I can e-mail this to them!

you may not realize it but, at the dealership the tewchs get paid per the job they do,therefore if he botched the job (for whatever reason) he should get a chance to fix it (for free the second time). That is called a recheck or comeback at most dealerships, everyone had a bad day . Take it back to the dealership voice your concerns but give the tech a chance to make it right………….then you can request the service writer make sure your concerns are addressed……. hope that helped
