You both must endorse the check. If it were me and I did this, I would get that $300. If you and the body shop decided to go another way and it comes out cheaper then you can work it out with them on the amount left over. But if was done so that it shows that the body shop charges one price that way you will come out with extra and the insurance follows up, it will be considered insurance fraud, which is obviously a crime.
