How to claim check made to me and auto body shop?

I was rear ended but the guy didnt have insurance so my insurance will have to pay for my damages so the check will be made out to myself and the auto body shop. I cant cash the check since it has both our names on it unless they sign it. I could really use the money and car is still driveable so my question is can i take the check and just get anyone from the body shop to sign it? then take to bank to get cashed? Or what are my other options since the money could really help. thanks

Is your car financed? If so….then no.

If your car is not financed (ie…you are not making any payments on it) then you can ask the insurance company to make the check out to you only. However, they may drop your collision/comprehensive coverage until you have the car repaired and the insurance company inspects it.
