Do most auto-body repair shops have original paint colors?
Posted by admin on October 18, 2009My car has a chunk missing out of the passenger side mirror, and I want to buy a new one, but they only sell it in white. Would most auto-body repair shops have in stock or have access to the original 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix colors?
I had similar problems last winter and was glad I got my repairs covered under my extended warranty. extended warranties are cheaper if you don’t buy them from the manufacturer. http://www.americaschoicetoday.com/Auto-Warranty.html

Yes, they get the paint code off the vehicle and a computerized system mixes the paint for them.

yes, they use the color code for the vehicle, and that is the same exact vehicle color back when the vehicle was brand new. thats why the paint may look fresher on the mirror than the rest of the car.

Not only most Body Shops, but also most Jobber Auto Parts stores can mix paint to match the original factory color. That way, you can just buy the paint direct from them, and even if you don’t have a spray gun to paint it yourself with, they can also sell you an aerosol setup to spray it with.

Used these myself before I got my own compressor.
they usually get the paint number off the door jam and have it mixed to match the other color of your car.
