I want to do auto mechanics as my vocation for the last two years of my high school career. I heard somewhere that you need that AND two more years in a, auto mechanics school. Is that true? I thought that once you did vocational school, you were about ready for the job, except for maybe extra practice hours and a bit more training. Can you guys clear this up for me?
It’s not just a matter of time.
I’ve seen "mechanics" who have been at the job for years, and still do a craptastic job of it.
It’s like asking "how many years of school do you need to be educated?" There is no specified time limit, it’s a matter of how quickly you learn, and skill level.

Sorry for the unfocused video taken with my phone cam.
I cut then fit some patches for the 1/2″ holes the PDR guys drill in the fender well. They used plastic plugs to cover them up which still leaves annoying holes for the picky restoration artist.. While I have the QP off for repairs I decided it would be best to patch these holes up with some of the QP sheet metal I cut off.
In my opinion PDR (Paintless Dent Repair) is decent and usually used by dealerships to cut the cost of full refinishing but this also leaves random holes in cars. Not for a proper restoration or a collectible car. I personally cannot vouch for putting holes in a perfectly, undamaged panel to fix another even if it is not seen without getting under or behind interior panels.
