I finished high school recently and would like to get a part time job working at a place that interests me.
I’m 17 and not experienced (but I can learn).
I’m studying engineering next year in university (most probably mechanical or chemical)
Any ideas?
thanks.
there are a lot of shop maintenance tasks that can be done part time, janitorial, collecting rags, cleaning parts, picking up and dropping off cars and/or parts at the part stores, running for doughnuts, washing vehicles, maintaining the building and grounds, keeping the coffee on and toilet paper on the roll, organizing and stocking inventory, etc etc, etc…..
it gets really crazy right around closing time, so being available for any disaster is important then.

I’m wondering what is the best time of year to do auto repairs.. as in, when do auto repair shops typically offer the best deals?
You missed it… Right after Christmas, when everyone is broke and shops are starving for work.

I know very little about cars but I am interested in knowing how to become a mechanic. I think it would be a good skill to have and a job as a mechanic would be useful and possibly fun. I’m 18 years old and I’m going to a university in Michigan with no idea what direction to go in.
I am not sure how they do it in the States, in Canada I had to find a auto repair place that was willing to hire me to take an apprenticeship. I served 9000 hours and went to trade school 6 months. I would look up your Ministry of Education to see what the protocol is. You are not going wrong by becoming a mechanic. I was never out of a job all the time I was in the trade. 30 years

How much does it cost to open an autobody shop and what costs are associated in an tiemized format such as:
- 6,000 lb lift $2500
- Welder $500
etc.
Any help would be appreciated
ok guys listen up you have disposal fees for used oil’s and liquids you can call a company like (Safty clean) they also rent uniforms, frame machine is around $12,000 for a descent one and all hardware, air compressor is about 3,500 for a good onemost tools can be bought on time from snap-on or mac or anyplace like that and just pay a certain amount each month, your paints and clears and thinners should be bought in bulk to make it cheaper, and as far as your lift and welder go you wont need a 6,000lb lift your frame machine will do just fine and the welder guess again try 2 to 3 thousand for a descent mig at an guestimat i would say a probable start up would ru8n you at a bare minimum if you were just to get the doors open would be around 20,000 to 30,000 dollars it isnt cheap plus your building rental or lease and to have it rewired to handle your electric needs as for compressor and lighting would be pretty high alsoi would lean toward the 30,000 dollar mark for start up cast! good luck in your venture i hope it works for you p.s. i would look into auto repair cheaper to operate and tools are cheaper.

i am going to choose course from centennial college about auto body repair, but i found 2 courses relate to it, 8405 auto body repair Techniques, and 8543 auto body Repairer. whats the difference between this 2 and which one is better to take? im very confuse.
Check with a councellor regarding specific aplications for these courses. one may be a prerequisite for the other

When I purchased the car 2 years ago I thought the body was is great shape what I didn’t notice was that they had put some sort of tape at the door bottoms and the rocket panels. Now I have holes there and need to hide them some how. Preferably something easy as I don’t know much about car repairs. I think the tape they used was Duraflex but I’m not sure if that would hold now. I have since learned to take a magnet with me and test the body of a car by placing the magnet on it especially at the bottom of the doors and if it doesn’t stick it means there is no metal there.
the cheapest and easiest way is to replace the doors with doors from a salvage yard and then repaint.
You could try bondo after removing the rust, but that is going to eventually fail too.

Recently, a rock truck spilled some rocks on the highway and one of them jumped up and crashed into my condenser coil on my car. This resulted in a good sized leak.
What do you think is the best way to self-repair this?
2005 Toyota corrolla. Most likley a aluminum coil.
Is there a aluminum epoxy that can seal this? Anyone have success with doing that?
Or should I just take the coil into a machine shop to get it repaired or welded?
Please help!
Replacement is the only option. DO NOT REPAIR THIS, Replace it. You have exposed the AC system to the Open air. you need to replace the condenser and the receiver dryer/accumulator. if you attempt to repair the condenser with an epoxy you will run the risk of blocking off the tubes also allowing flammable fumes in to the system. thus causing unknown conditions to exist in the compressor. Possible explosion comes to mind. having it welded is not a good option as well as you would most likely spend the same amount of money to weld it as you would to buy a new one. I would recommend using your insurance to help you with this repair as the cost for just the condenser and the receiver Dryer is close to 500 dollars. then your looking at testing and charging of the system which can be another 150 to 200 dollars. if your deductible is 500 (Most are) then your saving yourself some money and having the system repaired correctly.
