How do I tell the car repair guy that I will have to call him back?

Posted by admin on February 28, 2010

I’m getting my car serviced for a second opinion on a Transmission. I’m expecting it to cost a lot. But I have to discuss the cost with my grandma. How do I tell the repair guy that

1) I’m will have to call him back and let him know if I will fix the car or not?

2) If it costs to much, how to I tell him in a nice way that it’s to much money?

I would not be so concerned with being so polite and nice. It’s very considerate of you but you have to realize that if you chose not to have your car fixed it is really your business and thats all. You dont need reasons. Also, frequently these tranny guys are scam artists. Ive had them pressure me to get repairs that I needed right then and I said no I have to think about it. My car went another 100,000 miles and never had the repair he mentioned before I sold it.

what is the best book to learn about automotive repair?

I just wanna know what book will give me the best information that I would need. I know that hand on training is the best way to learn but i’m just looking for a book title.

It all depends on what you are working on. Haynes repair manuals are what I use they are vehicle specific. You can find them at most auto parts stores.

What diagnostic software and equipment to independent auto repair shops use? ?

Posted by admin on February 28, 2010

Like when they hook your car up (bmw, mercedes, audi ect..) and it runs a diagnostics and tells them what the exact problem is and what should be fixed and how.

BASICALLY I JUST NEED TO KNOW WHAT THE SOFTWARE AND EQUIPMENT IS CALLED AND WHERE TO FIND IT???
Has anyone heard of Autologic.us ? And is it anyone good?

The BIG misconception is the diagnostics tells what exactly is wrong, it shows what system area needs to be checked further or what readings the particular sensor is seeing or reacting to . eg a cut wire will make a sensor read low or hi , ie. on a throttle position it will show no input for more fuel upon acceleration but the other sensors will try to compensate and add fuel

MAC ,Snap-on or Matco tools have scanners with the appropreat moduels
I have a Bear anylizer w/3 gas which stands about 6 ft tall and about 4ft wide about $68,000 the smaller machines will do just fine for most.

Should I buy custom auto parts online and then take them to a custom auto shop or get them through a shop.?

Posted by admin on February 28, 2010

Is it better and cheaper to buy custom auto parts online and then take them to a custom auto shop to have them installed or should I order and have the parts installed directly through the custom auto shop?

It depends on the shop. I did that same thing with some springs, but I knew the mechanic.

Talk to the guys at the shop. They may just cut you a deal on the parts if you use them for the labor.

I need alittle help and information about being a auto repair mechanic?

Posted by admin on February 28, 2010

Well Im still debating if I would like this to be a career for me cause I love how cars look and I love to learn the whole structure of a car and how to even build my own but I need to know a coouple of things first.
1.Do you know how much mechanics make per year?

2.What classes would you suggested I should take in high school/college?

3.Whats a great college I can go to to learn to be one.

4. Are there many positions I can choose from if I be a mechanic or its just a one thing only?[sry if i didnt word it in a simplier way, hope you'll understand]

Yes I am a female wanting to be this but I just love cars!! Its a job Im willing to do.

Another thing, what do you think cause I want to be a veterinarain but then I want to be an auto mechanic.I dont know which of the 2 I want the most cause I love animals but then I love cars, so rite now Im just gonna see wit of the two makes the most money

Go with the Vet. I spent 45 years turning wrenches. It’s either feast or famine with the pay check.
You must be certified (Lots of hands on experience) to get the paperwork that says your an expert.
Thousands of dollars of tools you must own to work on the cars. Lots of theft among mechanics, and the shop owners cheat their technicians.
Had I the opportunity to start over, (I’m retired), I would go with Vet training.

How can I save money on auto body repair?

Posted by admin on February 28, 2010

Take it to a ‘learning’ shop. Most high schools and local colleges have body shops where they teach students how to repair cars.

They usually charge little more than the cost of any parts needed, and the job is usually far superior to any regular shop. The reason for this is not only do you have the instructor watching, you have all the students watching as well.
