Have you had your car repaired at a Progressive Repair Center? How did they do?

Posted by admin on November 28, 2009

I got hit by someone with progressive auto insurance. They took liability and Progressive is going to pay for all of my repair. They are going to have me go to their Progressive Service center, specifically the one in Portland Oregon. I want to make sure they are going to do a good job.

Has anyone gotten their car repaired at one of their service centers, or even the one in Portland? Did they do a good job or would I be better off finding my own place to take my car?

I would get a lifetime guarantee on the repair from Progressive. Has anyone ever had problems with this guarantee?

I haven’t had personal experience with them, but found that at one of my local repair facilities (extremely highly rated) won’t do insurance repairs for Progessive clients because Progressive won’t allow them to do the repairs to their satisfaction and standards. The business is Ken Ware Chevrolet in Coos Bay, Oregon. I know the office staff would be more than willing to tell you what their experience is with Progressive and why their company will do repairs for every other insurance carrier but Progressive.

My gut tells me that if they skimp on repairs from other agencies, they will do the same at their own facility. I think they are betting that you will sell the car before the problems surface. And if the repair facility isn’t close to you, think how inconvient it will be to keep taking the car back repeatedly.

FYI – other repair facilities also offer the lifetime repair certification – Ken Ware certified mine – and I don’t own a car brand they sell either.

How are people that work in new car dealership auto shops paid? What are flag hours?

Posted by admin on November 28, 2009

Do the Lube Techs have to pay for their own fluids such as oil, brake fluid, power steering fluid, etc. at a dealership, and only get paid something like 3/10 of an hour for each oil change? If only one person comes in for an oil change, they only get paid for the 3/10 of hour for the entire day.

lube techs are paid hourly, they are not experienced enough to be paid flat rate And no one makes out enough on flat rate pay just changing oil!
The dealership charges the customer for the fluids, the lube tech is only responsible for the labor. If he is smart and not flat rate he will drag his butt and not perform so quickly.

Should I buy from the dealer or a regular auto shop?

I need a new alternator for my Corolla. Should I get it from the dealer or is it ok to get from a regular auto shop (non-Toyota). The Toyota part has a 12 month warranty. What do you think?

Do yourself a favour and go somewhere other than the dealer. You can get the part from and aftermarket manufacturer for probably around half of what the dealer will charge you. You drive a corolla, not a lexus – don’t worry too much about where you get your parts from – just look for the best deal from a reputable manufacturer of parts.

Through my experience, aftermarket parts (from reputable manufacturers) far exceed the quality of OEM and always cost less and last longer.

Oh yeah, thought I might add this too – take a good look at the alternator – I would be willing to bet that it’s not even made by Toyota – probably Fujitsu or Mitsubishi…

Is it possible to buy black automotive (auto body) paint for your vehicle?

Posted by admin on November 28, 2009

It’s a black Chevy, and it needs auto body work, to cover chipping paint, that looks as though it burned off from the sun or something.
Is it possible to buy something being sold in the store?
And do it yourself?

you can buy any color you want. the only thing i know you can get in the parts store is spray paint in cans, and brush paint.
